APPLICATION

LIA supports international artists and promotes global cultural transfer. The not-profit institution offers five furnished studios, 83 square meters each, which serve as a working and living space, as well as the participation in the program, one group show at LIA is garanteed. Studios are available for three or a six months periods. There is a monthly studio fee charged of one thousand and onehundred Euro including seven percent VAT. Swiss artists may apply directly for funding at the Christoph Merian Foundation. Selected artists by LIA will receive all documentation necessary to apply for funding. LIA does neither cover living/ material nor traveling expenses. Artists can apply anytime, there is no deadline. Arrangements will then be made together.

 

WE PROVIDE

Studio – 83 square meter furnished studio including all side costs (commonly used bath/kitchen, linen and towels)

Exhibition – garanteed participation in a group show during the Spinnerei Gallery Tour (January, April, September) or the summer and winter show at LIA (July, December)

Service – curatorial advice, visa- and scholarship application aid, care taking

Program – curatorial advice, visa- and funding assistence, visits of artist studios, artists as critics visiting LIA studios, press visits (if the artists wants to participate)

 

Please note, LIA is not reliable of finding the artist a gallery space.

JURY

A jury decides on the acceptance of the applicant. Only applications with completed applications will be considered. The jury meets once a month. Admission is rolling.

 

NOTICE

The applicant will be notified within four weeks of his sent application. Being accepted the applicant receives permission to enroll in LIA. The first third of the total amount of fees have to be paid during the following four weeks. LIA will assist the applicant with recommendation letters and visa aid to receive financial support.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SWISS ARTISTS

GENERAL INFORMATION

LIA is an artists-in-residence program, aiming to build cultural bridges and to foster an art critical approach. LIA is an interdisciplinary program connecting artistic discourses with political, economical and scientific themes. LIA believes in the encounter of foreign cultures as being a great benefit to once own artistic biography. English should be spoken reasonably well. Artists participating in LIA are on their own risk. Artists have to proof health insurance.

 

PREMISES

The 83 square meter studio is fully equipped for working and living purposes: There is a bed, chairs, table and a cupboard for storage and clothes. There will be linen, sheets and towels provided for you. So just come and start.

Also there is a common kitchen with washing machine, fridge, oven, microwave and dishes as well as a common shower and bathroom all located in the programme! And a main exhibition hall in front of your studio is there for common dinners, presentations, film nights and exhibitions.

We have one of the largest artist supply stores in town at the Spinenrei where you can find everything possible just exiting your studio.

 

ARRIVAL

By arrival the artist will receive sheets and towels. Wireless Lan is available for 6 € per month. The artist has to put in a deposit of 30 € which will be returned by departure if the keys are returned and the studio has been left as it was found.

 

SALES POLICY

Its fully the decision of the artist to sell or not to sell. If the artist decides to sell  in the programme, LIA will charge 40 % commission . The program will take care of the entire payment process, pay VAT on the sales  price , organize and pay for shipping. The rest of the payment will be fully used for not-profit purposes. As LIA is a cultural program the artist is not obliged to sell his works at any time.   

 

INFORMATION ABOUT THE CITY

Leipzig, with a population of over 504,000, is the largest city in the federal state of Saxony, Germany. It is well-known for its old university and its trade fairs. Many traditional publishing houses are in Leipzig. The city is one of he historic centers of book printing. Besides Dresden it is the most populated city of Saxony and one of the economically strongest regions of the new federal counties. The city is also home to the New Leipzig School engaging in figurative painting and the Spinnerei as its cultural hub.

 

ARRIVAL

Leipzig/ Halle airport ist the best way to reach us. Taxi to the Spinnerei is around 30 € or take the train to the main train station Leipzig Hbf, Taxi from there to the Spinnerei is 12 € or take tram No. 15 direction Militz, ca. 20 min, get out Lindenauer Busbahnhof, next left, cross the bridge second right is the Spinnereistr., walk 100 meters, turn left into the Spinnerei, we are in hall 18, second floor, right hand side.
